The Casio brand was founded in Japan in April 1946 by Tadao Kashio. The history of Casio watches dates back to the 1970s. At the time, the company was a leader in the sale of personal calculators and was considering how to further leverage its extensive experience with digital technology. In October 1974, Casio launched the first digital watch, the CASIOTRON. The first quartz crystal-controlled clocks and watches were developed during this period. It was the first manufacturer whose watches allowed the display of time in different time zones, as well as the display of temperature, atmospheric pressure and altimeter. Casio watches also have ranges designed for various sports such as fishing, where great water resistance is commonplace, as well as a moon phase indicator.

The most popular and best-selling model line of watches in the world is the Casio G-Shock watch. It is a massive watch of various fashionable colors, extremely shockproof and of course waterproof. They have features like solar power, radio control, barometer, altimeter and thermometer.
Also very popular is a combination of analogue and digital watches, called Wave Ceptor, which are controlled by a radio signal.

Casio watches are still among the top watchmaking brands.
