About the Draken Watches brand
The name Draken comes from the name Drakensberg, which means "dragon mountain". The Drakensberg stretches almost the entire length of South Africa, forming a central plateau with the highest peaks in the east. It is a place that is peaceful and ancient and beckons for adventure.

Our philosophy

Michael Blythe - Founder and designer
Although I currently live in Auckland, New Zealand, I still consider South Africa my homeland and the Drakensberg holds a special place in my heart. I spent many vacations of my youth exploring and hiking these amazing mountains and I always try to visit them when I go back to visit. Nature has always been a great source of inspiration for me, and whether I'm hiking in the Berg, South Africa, or mountain biking in New Zealand, these are the environments where I feel at my best.
I've always had a passion for design, but it wasn't until 2015 when I was introduced to the Microbrand watch industry that I became completely obsessed with watches. I didn't want Draken to be just another company paying tribute to watches, but to walk a fresh new path with distinctive original designs.
